Approximately 20% of Israel’s soldiers come from financially distressed homes. Whenever we visit with units, one of the main themes brought to our attention is that of the difficult conditions that soldiers and their families face due to living at or below the poverty line. Sadly, these families cannot afford what most of us consider the most basic necessities like refrigerators, or radiators to heat their homes.
The caring and devotion of the commanding officers in bringing these situations to light has inspired us to act on their soldiers behalf by establishing this project. We work in cooperation with the officers in charge of social welfare, as well as the soldiers themselves, in an effort to assist where it is most urgently needed.
Yashar LaChayal provides donated furniture, and purchases household appliances that these families unfortunately cannot afford. We also deliver food packages prior to the holidays so that these families do not have to go without.
